Adam Christopher talks to author Scott Sigler in this podcast special:

Podcast

"New York Times best-selling novelist Scott Sigler is the author of INFECTED and CONTAGIOUS, hardcover thrillers from Crown Publishing. INFECTED is in production as a major motion picture by Rogue Pictures.

Before he was published, Scott built a large online following by giving away his self-recorded audiobooks as free, serialized podcasts. His loyal fans, who named themselves “Junkies” have downloaded over seven million individual episodes of his stories and interact daily with Scott and each other in the social media space."

Ah, cracking. I've heard Scott Sigler on Keith and The Girl before. Awesome cool dude (though his latest dystopian-future-steroided-rollerball-meets-American Football-with-aliens opus, sounds like you need to understand the very silly game of 'american football' to properly appreciate).

Which, of course, NO ONE outside the US does.

Well, I don't anyway |:|

Nope, no one does. It's like cricket in that respect.

I find it odd that we've known Adam for some years now and I still have only the vaguest idea of what he sounds like. I was listening to that and saying "ooo!" everytime he spoke.

Anyone who has spent any time with Rob F Lowe is 54% cooler.

That kind of impact needs a stiff drink afterwards.

All at the same time? The mind boggles. Then has to have a bit of a lay down.

American football is a thinly veiled metaphor for war. It is all about pushing into the enemy occupied territory by land (running plays) or air (passing plays). The goal is to reach your enemy's end zone and score a touchdown (the same term used when a fighter jet lands) to kick the football through a raised post, or to clobber the quaterback (a sort of troop leader) inside his own endzone (called a safety).

The fans may not be quite as raucous as those of international football, but they are pretty close. There was some documentary that addressed football during the Vietnam conflict. The players would yell at the hippies as they were bussed from town to town. However, in the locker room they were getting injected with drugs to improve performance and kill pain. Huh. Who is the tripped out druggy now, mate?

Sports. Bleh. :-X

Hello! Thanks for pimping the podcast! It's the first podcast I've done, but it seems to have come out okay. Scott was a real gent, and I'm looking forward to getting my Rookie hardcover next month.

The podcast should show up in iTunes sometime this week.

I agree that American football is an acquired taste outside of the USA (like baseball I guess), but it's the peculiarities of it (for those of us who never grew up with it as part of the sporting culture) that make it strangely appealing. Certainly a mashup of Star Wars-The Godfather-Any Given Sunday is a fantastic idea. The podcast of The Rookie is available here and is well worth a listen.

But anyway, that's just one of Scott's many novels. I'm just coming to the end of the podcast of the non-sports-related Nocturnal, and it's a hell of a ride.

Thanks again!

Adam

Rugby actually has some pace to it. American football is the world's longest hour. Four 15 minute quarters should not take up to 3 hours. The problem is stopping the clock. Let the bastard run so we can get this over with. Same with basketball. Don't stop the clock. No more time outs. You get two half hours and a fifteen minute break between.

What the hell. I still wouldn't watch it.

Even though I'm British I do Love American Football (Go Bears!)

I've stopped listening to podiobooks because I simply don't have the time, but I did hear Sigler's 'The Rookie' and really enjoyed it.

I don't do watching of sports, even if it means I've exiled myself from 95% of the UK's male population - honestly how can people discuss endless permutations and combinations of football (soccer)?

If I were going to be involved with sports it would mean *doing* the sport. Except I'm a lazy bastard |:)

Some of my thoughts on football are summed up here ;) http://sennydreadful.blogspot.com/2009/ ... -arse.html

Probably applies for all sports.

Except darts*

*I don't care if it's a sport or not!

Quoted for truth... or at least quoted because it feels like I wrote it...
